Food intolerances can sometimes cause diarrhea.

What Is a Food Intolerance?

Food intolerances.  Food intolerance occurs when a person has difficulty digesting a certain type of food. Symptoms may develop hours – or even days – after eating the trigger food.

Common symptoms of a food intolerance:

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea

  • Bloating

  • Abdominal pain

An example of a common food intolerance is to lactose – a sugar found in milk and other dairy products.

If you have a food intolerance, stay away from your trigger foods to help avoid your symptoms. You can try to identify your trigger foods by keeping a food diary of what you eat every day, and then, aligning this information to the symptom.
